Want to learn to use it?

Here's how...

This tutorial shows you how to use AOLpress to create Web pages. First, we'll teach you how to open and save pages. Then, we'll show you the cool things you can add to your pages. Just click on an item to find out how to create it. You can experiment with topics that interest you.

This isn't just an online manual -- it's an online workbook. You can edit these pages to "learn by doing". Since the pages in this workbook are stored on your own computer, you can save your changes, as well. This workbook isn't a library book, feel free to "play" with it and add your own comments. We'll provide sections like the one below--the instructions are in the left column, and there's space to experiment in the right column.

  1. To begin personalizing this workbook, type your name in the middle of the underlined spaces to the right.
(You might want to make this window wider so you'll have plenty of room to read these steps and edit the page.)
  2. Now, pull down the File menu and choose Save. This saves this page (including your name) to your computer's hard drive.
(In the rest of this workbook, we'll simply say something like "Choose FileSave" to tell you to choose a command from the pull-down menus.)

To find a particular topic quickly, use the table of contents, which lists all the topics in this workbook. Click the 'i' icon at the bottom of the page to move to the table of contents or the Index icon to move to the index.

This workbook was designed to get you "up-and-running" quickly. As you work with AOLpress, you can click the "Help" button in various dialogs to get context-sensitive information about that dialog. For more information about using AOLpress, see the online User's Guide.

Because the workbook files are stored on your computer, your modem doesn't need to be connected while you use this workbook. We've added QBullets next to links that connect to the Internet.

If you want to back up to the previous page, click the Back button in the toolbar. (The buttons in the AOLpress toolbar work just like the Reload, Back, Forward, and Stop buttons in other Web browsing software.)

OK, let's get started! Here's a list of the major topics in your workbook:
The Basics

Here we'll show you how to open a new page and save it to your own computer or to the Web.

Creating Your Pages

We'll show you pictures of pages. Just click on things you want to know how to create. For example, you can create tables, forms, lists, links, and more.

Organizing Your Pages

As you create more pages, you'll need to learn ways to manage them so you don't drown in a sea of files. AOLpress lets you use "MiniWebs" to stay on top of the files that make up your Web site.

Tips & Tricks

As the name says, this is the place to look for nifty little tricks for using AOLpress.

We plan to add more topics to this workbook in the near future. You can download the latest version by following these steps:
  1. Check the "Tutorial version" number at the bottom of this page.
  2. Then, go to the tutorial download page. This page will provide information about what lessons have been added recently and instructions for downloading the latest version.

We'll be adding more topics soon. Send your comments on the tutorial and requests for additional topics to KILLspamfeedbackTakeThisOuT at aolpress.com.
